Living coral will paint 2019
The colour of the year for 2019 is proposed by Pantone in response to the growing presence of technology in society. Under reference 16-1546, Living Coral is here to bring «more colour and light» to the coming year, according to the global authority on colour.
Following Rose Quartz in 2016, Greenery in 2017, and Ultra Violet in 2018, the 16-1546 shade, better known as Living Coral, was chosen as the colour for 2019 because it is «an animating and life-affirming coral hue with an undertone that energizes and enlivens», explains Pantone.
«In reaction to the onslaught of digital technology and social media increasingly embedding into daily life, we are seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy», says Leatrice Eiseman, vice-president of the Pantone Colour Institute. «Lying at the center of our naturally vivid and chromatic ecosystem, Pantone Living Coral is evocative of how coral reefs provide shelter to a diverse kaleidoscope of colour», she says. Eisenman also refers that «colour enhances and influences the way we experience life. Living Coral reinforces how colours can embody our collective experience and reflect what is taking place in our global culture at a moment in time».
Pantone has been announcing the colour of the year for nearly two decades, based on trend analyses. Each year, the specialists analyse chromatic influences associated with many different areas, from the entertainment industry to artists, including socioeconomic factors, new technologies, and relevant sports events.
